Director

The Director of OxCHEPS is David Palfreyman, MA MBA LLB, Bursar and Fellow, New College, Oxford. He has previously worked at the Universities of Liverpool and Warwick, and has written numerous articles on education management.

David has co-edited a book for the Open University Press entitled Higher Education Management: the key elements, and some of his other books are Oxford and the Decline of the Collegiate Tradition and The State of UK Higher Education. Two further books: Higher Education and the Law and How to manage a merger or avoid one were published in 1998; the second edition of the former is entitled Higher Education Law (2002). In 2006 David Palfreyman published with Dennis Farrington, The Law of Higher Education.

David is a (Joint) Director of the UUK Management Development Course for Higher Education Administrators. He is also a Member of the Editorial Board of the AUA’s journal Perspectives and Co-Editor of the journal Education and the Law.

David Palfreyman is a Series Editor (with David Warner) of the 15-volume Open University Press/McGraw-Hill ‘Managing Universities and Colleges’ ­ see list at Resources Page; and also a Series Editor (with Ted Tapper and Scott Thomas) of the RoutledgeFalmer/Taylor & Francis ‘Comparative International Higher Education’ 12-volume series (2008 onwards).
